RHS Regional Partners

The RHS Regional Partners are an integral part of the RHS process. The following organizations and individuals are presently responsible for administration of the RHS in their respective regions.

Alberta: Treaty 7 Management Corporation

Treaty 7 Management Corporation’s primary purpose remains to be an advisory organization for the Nations of the Treaty 7 region of Alberta. Our mandate is to provide advisory services in areas of common interest to Treaty 7 First Nations. We try to facilitate, coordinate, and develop positions for lobbying in areas such as Treaties, Education, Health, Community Development, Social Development and Economic Development.

BC First Nations Health Council

The First Nations Health Council was created in February 2007 to implement the Tripartite First Nations Health Plan on behalf of BC First Nations. The purpose of the Plan is to improve the health & well-being of First Nations and to close the health gap between First Nations and other British Columbians

Manitoba: Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs

The Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs is the forum for the Chiefs of 64 First Nations in this region of six numbered treaties and five languages (Cree, Dakota, Dene, Ojibway, OjiCree). AMC was established in 1989 to be a forum to promote and preserve our inherent aboriginal & treaty rights and work together to improve the quality of life of the First Nation citizens in Manitoba.

The AMC is proud of our partnership with the University of Manitoba in the establishment and ongoing cooperation in the work of the Manitoba First Nations Centre for Aboriginal Health Research (MFN CAHR), and we work together on the RHS and other research to improve the lives of Manitoba First Nations.

Ontario: Chiefs of Ontario

Chiefs of Ontario is a coordinating body for 134 First Nation communities located within the boundaries of the Province of Ontario. The purpose of the Chiefs of Ontario office is to enable the political leadership to discuss regional, provincial and national priorities affecting First Nation people in Ontario and to provide a unified voice on these issues.

The main objective of the Chiefs of Ontario office is to facilitate the discussion, planning, implementation and evaluation of all local, regional and national matters affecting the First Nations of Ontario. The Chiefs of Ontario office has become a vehicle to facilitate discussions between the Ontario government and First Nation people of Ontario.

New Brunswick: Union of New Brunswick Indians (UNBI)

The objectives of UNBI includes fostering and promoting self-determination of the Indian People of New Brunswick in the presence of all of their Aboriginal, Treaty, and residual rights.

Northwest Territories: Dene Nation, Denendeh National Office

Formerly the Indian Brotherhood of the NWT, the purpose of the Dene Nation is to retain sovereignty of the Dene Nation by strengthening the Dene and Dene spiritual beliefs. The organization was formed in 1970 to address concerns about Treaties 8 and 11. It continues to negotiate with the federal government on behalf of the Dene Nation.

Nova Scotia: Union of Nova Scotia Indians

The UNSI is a tribal organization that provides political leadership and a unified voice for the Mi'kmaq Naiton of Nova Scotia. The Union works to improve the welfare and well being, and economic and social conditions of Nova Scotia Indians. UNSI promotes the rights and interests of Indian People, and initiates programs for their advancement.

Quebec and Labrador: First Nations of Quebec and Labrador-Health and Social Service Commission (FNQLHSSC)

Vision

The FNQLHSSC, in the context of a holistic approach, promotes, supports and ensures (assists) First Nations and Inuit communities in the IMPROVEMENT of our global health and well-being, to live our lives to the fullest in positive and creative lifestyles.

Mission

Improve the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well being of First Nation and Inuit individuals, families and communities in respect of their local autonomy and culture.

By helping the communities that wish to initiate, develop and promote comprehensive health & social programs and services as designed by First Nations and Inuit organizations recognized by our First Nations and Inuit.

Role

The role of the FNQLHSSC is to assist Quebec and Labrador First Nations and Inuit communities and organizations in the defense, maintenance and the exercise of their inherent rights IN HEALTH AND SOCIAL SERVICES as well as to help them in the realization (delivery) and the development of THESE programs.

Saskatchewan: Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations (FSIN)

The FSIN's mandate includes; the protection of Treaties and Treaty Rights; fostering progress in the economic, education and social endeavors of First Nation People; co-operation with Civil and religious authorities; the adherence to democratic procedure; the promotion of respect and tolerance for all people.

Yukon Territory: Council of Yukon First Nations

CYFN is the central political organization of the First Nations of the Yukon. It houses a number of departments, programs and Councils, including the Health and Social Development Department, which coordinates all issues and activities pertaining to health development within CYFN.
